Battle Strictly is our new competition format, and it works differently from anything else on the schedule that night. Instead of dancing for a panel at the front of the room, you and your partner go head to head against another couple — inside a circle of judges, and dancers. You dance, they answer, you answer back. Then the judges tap one couple out and the next battle begins.
You enter as a couple. It's a Strictly, so pick your partner in advance — someone you want to go into battle with.
Bracket first. Depending on how many couples sign up, we start with an all-skate / pre-selection round to select the finalists with the most creativity & partnership - the focus is NOT on clean technique & flawless patterns.
Same music for both. In every battle, both couples dance to exactly the same section of the same song, one after the other. Nobody gets the easier track, nobody gets the better build.
Music you don't know. The DJ curates the battle music, and it won't be the usual West Coast competition playlist. You won't know what's coming — which means it's all about how you hear it right now, not how often you've danced to it before.
Decided on the spot. The judges sit in the circle and call it immediately after the exchange. If it's a tie, the crowd decides.
Not the cleanest pattern. We're looking at creativity, partnership and musicality — how you two create something together in the moment.
Take up space, make choices, show us who you are. Personality beats perfection in this format, and a connected dance always looks better than a flawless pattern.
Everyone. All levels, no qualification, no previous battle experience needed.
If you've never battled before: this format was built exactly for you. It's the most direct, most fun way to find out what happens when you stop dancing it safe.
Our Instructors Leo and Nessa open the evening with a class designed specifically for this battle — individual movement, battle culture and etiquette, how to use the space, and how to stay a real couple while you're both going for it. You'll be able to try the whole thing out before it counts.
